Etymology and Origins
The word ''giant'' comes from the Greek word gigantes (γίγαντες), which translates to ''earth-born''. In Greek mythology, Giants are depicted as a race of powerful beings that fought against the Olympian gods in Gigantomachy. Nowadays, while the orinigal meaning of the word ''Giant'' still stands, it doesn't necessarily have to refer to these beings. Instead, it can point towards something large or influential. (Tech giant etc.)

Giants are mostly present in literature and media, especially in genres such as fantasy, anime or science fiction. Their appearance, strenght, endurance and size make them quite a versatile figures, as they can be represented as a threat to humanity or as misunderstood, gentle creatures.
