A genderless person is an individual who does not identify with any gender. It's someone who does not see themselves as male or female, or as a mix of both. This person may feel like they have no gender at all, or that the very concept of gender does not apply to them.
It’s important not to confuse genderless with:
- Agender (which is very similar, but some people choose to distinguish the two).
- Non-binary (a broader term that includes all identities outside the male/female binary. Genderless is part of this category).
- Gender neutral (which can also refer to a neutral approach or expression of gender, without necessarily describing someone’s deep identity).

A genderless person may choose to use all sorts of pronouns to be referred to: masculine, feminine, androgynous, or neutral. But their appearance does not determine their gender identity. The most common pronouns are "they/them", but it can also be "he", "she", or neopronouns (invented pronouns used by some people whose gender identity is not accurately reflected by traditional pronouns). Preferences vary from person to person, and it’s best to simply ask directly.
Usage in Crushon.AI
On Crushon, characters with the Genderless tag don’t necessarily have this identity. It can also be characters who are non-human and therefore don’t have a gender based on human norms, or to scenario bots that don’t require a specific gender. Note that this tag can also be used when the bot creator wants to let users know that their character can be used by people of any gender identity.
