Gay refers to a homosexual man, meaning his romantic and sexual attraction is directed toward other men.

The category of gay identity, conceived as an innate disposition specific to certain men, was constructed by 19th-century medicine and later claimed by gay men themselves. Gay male communities share cultural practices, built, for example, through common spaces such as gay bars.
In certain aspects of life, gay men experience different relationships with experiences such as fatherhood, masculinity, spirituality, or aging. They are also often confronted with systemic hostility from society, known as homophobia.

Flag: Seven horizontal stripes—this flag is indeed inspired by its counterpart, the lesbian flag. It specifically draws from a seven-stripe version rather than the five-stripe one. To give homosexual men their own emblem, a similar flag was proposed, but with cool colors, in contrast to the lesbian flag, which features warm colors.
Etymology
The word "gay" has been used in English since the 12th century, originating from the Old French "gai". This word was borrowed from Occitan and is most likely of Germanic origin. It appears in the literature of the troubadours in expressions such as gaya scienza or gai saber, meaning "lively" or "joyful."
Primarily, the original meaning of the word is "joyful" or "carefree," and it was commonly used in this sense in speech and literature. For example, the optimism of the 1890s is still often referred to in English as the "Gay Nineties." The title of a French ballet, La Gaîté parisienne (1938) by Manuel Rosenthal, based on themes by Offenbach, also illustrates this connotation.
As early as the 17th century, the term "gay" was used to refer to matters related to entertainment and immoral pleasures, before becoming associated with prostitution in the 19th century.
Popular Culture
Male homosexuality has gained visibility in pop culture in recent years, with an increasingly diverse and nuanced representation in the media. Cinema and television series have incorporated gay characters not only as secondary or stereotypical figures but also as fully developed protagonists. They're demonstrating delicacy and showcasing the beauty and tenderness that can be found in these relationships. BL (Boys' Love) is also becoming increasingly popular in writings such as mangas and manhwas. In the field of music, more and more openly gay men, such as Troye Sivan, Conan Gray, and Lil Nas X, are gaining visibility. This proves a real advancement in the acceptance of homosexuality in our culture.
