Omegaverse
The Omegaverse, also known as A/B/O (short for "alpha/beta/omega"), is originally a subgenre of erotic fanfiction. The term "Omegaverse" broadly refers to a fictional system of romantic and sexual interactions within erotic fiction. A story is said to take place "in the Omegaverse".
Its premise is based on a dominance hierarchy among humans: dominant "alphas", neutral "betas", and submissive "omegas". This hierarchy determines how individuals interact with one another in romantic, erotic, and sexual contexts.
Origin
The Omegaverse first started in 2010 as a response to a prompt posted in May on a LiveJournal community. The fanfiction "I ain't no lady, but you'd be the tramp" was published by tehdirtiestsock on July 24, featuring Supernatural actors Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles as an Alpha and an Omega. Although the genre was not named at the time, this fanfiction introduced its characteristics.
Today, over 200,000 fanworks use the "Alpha/Beta/Omega Dynamics" tag on AO3, one of the most widely used platforms for sharing fanfiction.
