“Alien” broadly means any form of life that exists or originates from somewhere other than planet Earth.
The idea that life could develop elsewhere in the Universe dates back at least to Antiquity. Extraterrestrial life and its interactions with the human species are also recurring themes in science fiction (short stories and novels, films, video games, etc.). The belief in the current or past presence of intelligent alien beings on Earth has been widespread since the beginning of the space age. It is associated with the origin of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) and various speculative theories linked to spectacular formations (Nazca geoglyphs, Egyptian pyramids).

- Alien. 1979 sci-fi movie series about a dangerous alien.
- The X-Files. 1993 TV series about two FBI agents, Mulder and Scully, who investigate aliens.
Games
- Halo. FPS series that started in 2001. Follows the adventures of Master Chief John-117 who fights against an alien coalition.
- Alien: Isolation. Horror video game released in 2014. Follows the adventures of Amanda Ripley who has to survive on a spaceship against a dangerous alien.
