A Cartoon is a type of visual art that is most commonly either drawn or animated. If it's drawn, these illustrations are generally satirical and humorous, often drawn in a caricature style. Cartoonists (Authors), draw these illustrations in a sequence, which builds upon a story or a punchline. If it's animated, the authors are referred to as ''Animators''. When talking about animators, the concept slightly changes, as they are not limited to only comedy or humour, instead, they can cover all genres of media.

The term ''Cartoon'' comes from Italian ''Cartone'' which translates to a large piece of paper. During the Renaissance period, this term referred to a full-scale preparatory drawings for various types of artworks. In the 19th century, this term evolved in the English language to describe satirical illustrations, especially those that were found in the various magazines / newspapers. In the 20th century, this term has evolved yet again and now it also describes animated moving pictures that were drawn frame by frame.
