Philosophy is an approach aimed at understanding the world and life through rational and critical reflection. It is a search for truth guided by questioning the world, knowledge, and human existence.
It comes from the Ancient Greek ฯฮนฮปฮฟฯฮฟฯฮฏฮฑ / philosophรญa (composed of ฯฮนฮปฮญฯ / philรฉรด, "to love", and ฯฮฟฯฮฏฮฑ / sophรญa, "wisdom, knowledge"), literally meaning "love of knowledge" and commonly "love of wisdom".
Philosophy has existed since antiquity in the West and the East, through the figure of the philosopher, not only as a rational activity but also as a way of life. The history of philosophy allows us to grasp its evolution.
Philosophy was understood very early on as a way of life and not merely as a theoretical reflection. In other words, being a philosopher also means living and acting in a certain way, not just grappling with abstract questions. The etymology of the term "philosophy" indicates that the philosopher is one who strives for wisdom, who seeks to live as one should, and more specifically, who seeks happiness. Philosophy, understood as a way of life, emphasizes the application of philosophical reflection to one's own life.
