Trans Male
A trans male or transgender man is a person whose gender identity is male, while the gender assigned to them at birth based on the appearance of their sex is female. The word "transsexual" is still sometimes used, but it is becoming less common and is not recommended since it's an outdated medical term.

Trans males can undergo a transition (socially, medically, administratively). It refers to the set of actions a person takes in order to reduce the gap between how they perceive themselves and how they are perceived by the world. For example: undergoing hormone therapy, coming out to close ones or publicly, changing their first name, asking that different pronouns and grammatical agreements be used to refer to them, changing their wardrobe, training their voice, altering the way they walk, undergoing surgery.
Terminology
Transgender people are defined as those whose gender identity is different from that associated with their gender assigned at birth.
Some trans males prefer to be referred to simply as "men", considering that expressions like "trans male" or "female-to-male trans person" imply that they are not "real men". Additionally, many of them may not want to be perceived as "trans males" given society's tendency to categorize as "other" anyone who does not fit into the gender binary system, or because, for personal reasons, they do not wish to identify as transgender or label themselves as such.
Unlike "trans identity", "transsexualism" is not a generic term. "Transsexual" is an outdated medical term that frames trans identity as a pathology.
For this reason, most people concerned prefer to avoid its use. However, some have reclaimed the term and use it for themselves. Furthermore, the belief that "transsexual" refers to people seeking medical transition, while "transgender" refers to others, is a common misconception. Most people concerned reject this dichotomy because it reflects a distinction used by the medical field for pathologizing purposes and implies a hierarchy among individuals based on the degree of "dysphoria" they may feel toward their bodies.
